Nancy is a lawyer who has focused her practice on estate planning and probate law for over 40 years. She received her B.A. degree in English from Indiana University in 1971 and her J.D. degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1981, where she was a member of the Editorial Board for the University of Dayton Law Review. Nancy is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Dayton Bar Association, the Christian Legal Society, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Nancy formerly served as Chairperson of the Dayton Bar Association’s Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Committee and as President of the Dayton Trust and Estate Planning Group. Since 2003, Nancy has been board-certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in the areas of Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. In addition to serving as a mentor for 2 mentoring programs, Nancy is also on the Development Committee for the Dayton Foundation. For two years, Nancy taught the capstone Elder Law course at the University of Dayton School of Law (UDSL).
Nancy’s interest in the fields of estate planning and probate law grew out of her experience of being widowed at the age of 27 when her daughter Amy was 2 years old. Amy is now working for Nancy, and Nancy has been married to Bob Roberson since 1984. Nancy co-founded and co-facilitate two support groups for widows until she retired from one of them in 2020. In addition, Nancy is actively involved with her church and her family’s common interest of basketball.
Nancy has presented the “Are You Prepared?” seminar for years and coauthored the workbook, Solutions, in 1994 with Pam Walker. In 2011, due to Nancy’s passion for educating the community about the importance of planning for death and disability, Nancy received the distinguished Communication and Leadership Award from Toastmaster’s International District 40. In 2012, Nancy was chosen as the year’s winner of the Lloyd O’Hara Public Interest Law Award for the attorney who has best represented poor, disabled, and underprivileged clients over time. This award is sponsored by Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc., Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc., and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. In April 2013, Nancy was honored by the Ohio Diversity Council as a recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award.
Nancy is also the author of the column, “You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know” that was featured in Living With Loss magazine for 3 years before the magazine ended in early 2013. In 2012, Nancy was recognized by the Dayton Daily News as one of the Ten Top Women in Dayton, and in both 2010 and 2017, Nancy’s law firm was honored as a Finalist for the Better Business Bureau Eclipse Integrity Award and received the award in 2020.
